Catherine McAuley’s Mercy (HS)
The Performance
“It began with two, Sister Doyle and I.” These humble words speak to the sparse beginnings in 1831 Ireland to what is now an inspirational worldwide association known as:
The Sisters of Mercy
Written by Trisha Starrs, the author of Sister Mary of the Cross our highly acclaimed play on the life of St Mary MacKillop, the play explores the political, practical and spiritual determination of a young woman, bursting with Irish humour, to fulfil her dream of educating the poor, especially women and girls.
Presented by two performers at 55 minutes with an optional 15 minute Q&A, the presentation is adapted from primary source material including many of the thoughts and feelings of Catherine McAuley.
Women in Society, Religious Studies and the History of the Catholic Church.
