Building Bridges
The Performance
Brett uses song, performance and storytelling to explore the themes of relationship, responsibility and choice in contemporary Australian culture. The performance is in two parts.
Part 1: Explores respect for ourselves and respect for others. What we bring to and take from a relationship; how our behaviour impacts on others and what tools we need to build healthy and positive relationships. Part 1 can also look at the impact of modern technology and social-networking.
Part 2: Explores alienation, empathy and forgiveness. Brett tells personal stories (allegories) to illustrate and examine these themes. The stories are backed up with personal songs enabling the audience to listen with empathy and to reflect upon their meaning.
The presentation invokes passionate discussion and has powerful messages to impart. Brett has a genuine rapport with young people, and is able to share his experiences with humour, generosity and humility.

“This was a very powerful and worthwhile presentation, and I would highly recommend this to prospective schools who are endeavouring to instruct their students in social development. [Brett’s] willingness to be transparent and honest about his journey is a tribute to him. Brett Hunt’s presentation is inspirational and will serve to help manifest significant change with the students he meets by highlighting the significance of intrinsic values and how they are the basis for survival.”
“Brett has a special skill in enabling students to connect with issues of addiction, racism, violence and war through his personal story told in his music and poetry. They were deeply and positively impressed with his humility and candour. And he managed this with a group of 150! He has a gift that he is willing to share!”
“Brett … just thought I’d drop (a very late) thank you for your inspirational and deeply moving speech and performance [at our school]. It was awesome and you truly do have a one-of-a-kind story and a fantastic voice, not to mention your impeccable skill with the harmonica. Keep it up Brett, you truly are a role model for ALL young people. Your honesty and talent blew us all away.”
